Today, our Interact Club rolled up our sleeves to beautify our school grounds! Why? Because The Wall That Heals is coming to Butler, and we want our community to look its best for the veterans and families visiting this powerful memorial.
We take pride in where we live, and we believe "Service Above Self" starts right here at home. 🧹🌱

We’re challenging every local business, organization, and neighbor to join us! Take 15 minutes this week to clean up your storefront, park, or sidewalk. Post a photo of your team in action and tag us!

Butler Bears Celebrate Two More Collegiate Commitments
March 18, 2026
Congratulations to Jake Chandler, who committed to Baker University, and Kamden Fennewald, who committed to the University of St. Mary! Jake will be continuing his career in Football and Kamden will continue her playing career in Volleyball. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and excited to share more of their stories below.

Jake Chandler
Baker University | Football
Senior Jake Chandler from Butler High School signed his letter of intent to continue his football career at Baker University.
Jake is a standout athlete in all sports he participated in while attending Butler High School. He competed in football for four years, basketball for four years, track for three years, and baseball for two years.
Over the last four years playing football, Jake has earned the following honors:
2× All-Conference Second Team Offense
1× All-Conference Second Team Defense
1× All-Conference Second Team Special Teams
2× All-Conference First Team Offense
2× All-Conference First Team Defense
1× All-Conference First Team Special Teams
3× All-District selection
Jake also helped lead his basketball team to a District Championship during his sophomore year. In track during his junior year, he was the 400m District and Sectional Champion and went on to place 3rd at the State Track Meet.
Jake would like to thank all of his teammates over the last four years for helping him grow in the sport of football. He would also like to give a special thank you to Coach Burtch for helping guide him through the recruiting process, Mr. Schacher for encouraging him to continue his football career at Baker University, and Mrs. Seider for helping answer questions throughout the process.

Kamden Fennewald
University of St. Mary | Volleyball
Volleyball has been a passion that has shaped my high school experience in countless ways. Throughout my four years as a setter and one year as a defensive specialist in club volleyball, I have grown not only as an athlete but also as a person, learning invaluable lessons about teamwork, leadership, and perseverance.
My journey at Butler High School has been marked by significant achievements, including four-time All-Conference honors, four-time Academic All-State recognition, three-time All-District selections, and the honor of being named All-State once. These milestones reflect the dedication and hard work I poured into the sport, always striving to improve and contribute to my team’s success. Along the way, I had the privilege of breaking several school volleyball records, including:
Most assists in a match: 52
Career assists: 2,800
Career digs: 1,286
Aces in a season: 70
Career Aces: 212
Assists in a season: 935
Service points in a season: 250
Most Career Serving Points: 699

One of my most cherished memories was having the opportunity to play alongside my sister during my freshman year. I looked up to her immensely, both as a player and as a role model. Her guidance and support helped me navigate the challenges of high school volleyball and inspired me to push myself to be the best version of myself, both on and off the court. The bond we shared as teammates made those early years even more special, and I am grateful for the lasting impact she had on my development as a player.
I owe a great deal of gratitude to Coach G, whose unwavering commitment and guidance have been instrumental in shaping my volleyball career since I was 13. Her dedication went far beyond the court, teaching us the importance of teamwork and believing in ourselves. I am also incredibly thankful for my parents, who have been my biggest supporters throughout this journey. Their sacrifices—from countless hours spent at games and tournaments to their constant encouragement—have allowed me to pursue my love for volleyball and achieve my goals.
Finally, I am deeply grateful to my teammates, with whom I have shared countless memories and forged lifelong friendships. Together, we celebrated victories, overcame challenges, and created bonds that will last far beyond our time on the court.

In October, Kim Otter from the Butler Health Center spoke to Mrs. Bettels' General Foods classes about healthy versions of holiday treats and game day favorites. In November, Kim observed the students prepare recipes they had researched and agreed on. This past week, Mrs. Otter came in and awarded us 6 baking sheets for our classroom kitchens. Pictured is part of Mrs. Bettels' 4th-hour Foods Class.

Butler FCCLA took four students to State Competition in Springfield March 15-17. We had students compete in Star Events and Show Me Skills events. The results are:

Makenzie Algiere- Venture NLC placed in the top 5 with a Bronze Rating
Abbagail Vunovich - Toys that Teach- received a Bronze rating
Breanna Werner -Repurpose & Redesign- received a Bronze rating
Abbagail Vunovich and Addison Hawks- Interior Design placed in the top 5 with a silver rating

Show -Me Skills competition are state only contests that students prepare for between regionals and state and compete in on Sunday. To compete in Star events at state our students had to place in the top 2 at regionals. There are 14 regions in the state of Missouri so to place high enough to compete is an honor. This is my second year taking students to competition and I am very proud of our students and the effort they put into their projects. On the way home they were talking about next year by how to increase enrollment, community service projects and of course next years star events.
