• This page is a listing of local scholarships for Butler High School Students.  Students can browse through this list and apply for scholarships.  Please observe the recommendations and deadlines for each scholarship.  Do not wait until the day it is due to turn in your application.  The earlier the better.

  • ARMA LEE AND DARWIN JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  APRIL 15

    Arma Lee and Darwin Jones were both avid golfers here in Butler.  They resided off the southwest corner of the golf course just beyong the number four tee box.  They had no children of their own, but they loved every child they knew and were very generous to organizations like the Shriners Hospital for Children and the Rondal McDonald House.  Their family would like to extend their benevolence with two scholarships of $250 each to a senior member of the girls and boys golf teams who are planning to further her/his education at a college or trade school.

  • BATES COUNTY CATTLEMEN SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  MAY 15

    Open to senior or graduates continuing their education.  The applicant must plan to major in an agricultural related field at an accredited college or university offering AA, BS, or BA degrees.  The scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, and required books during the next semester after receipt of the award.

    Two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded to one young man and one young woman by the Bates County Cattlemen.

  • BATES COUNTY FARM BUREAU

    DEADLINE:  Due to Counselor by March 31 

    Eligibility:

    Must be a graduating senior who is a child of a current Bates County Farm Bureau member.

    Criteria include, but are not limited to, agriculture background or major along with being active in high school and community.

    Scholarship will be paid to the student and college or university recipient is enrolled in upon proof of enrollment

    A recent head and shoulders photograph suitable for newspaper coverage must also be attached.

  • BCYAC DUAL CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP

    FOR CURRENT JUNIORS AND SENIORS.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must demonstrate financial need.
    • Must be a Bates County Resident.
    • Must be enrolled in a dual credit course through their high school via an accredited university.
    • Completed applications must be turned in to the counseling office.
    • The BCYAC will pay a maximun of $250.00 for one dual credit course per student per year.  The student is responsible for any remaining balance.

  • BRYON L. SCHALLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  MARCH 15

    This $500.00 scholarship is available to students who are planning to attend a college or vocational school who have attended Butler, Missouri high school.

    • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or better in high school.
    • Attend a school approved by the federal government for student aid.
    • Maintain a full time student status as defined by the attending institution.
    • Be pursuing an undergraduate degree or attending a vocation or trade school.
    • Have strong citizenship, leadership qualities and community service.

  • BUTLER AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  APRIL 1 (School will not be in session so applications must be submitted to the counseling office by March 30.)

    $500 Scholarship

    Must be a Butler high school senior or a child, grandchild or employee of a Chamber member.

    Must have an accumulated GPA of 2.75 or higher.

    Must submit a copy of most recent grade card.

    Must be accepted by an accredited vocational program/college/university before distribution of monies.

    Scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, and required books during the next semester after receipt of award.

    One letter of recommendation.

    Must submit 1st semester grades and have proof of enrollment for 2nd semester before monies are distributed.

    Checks will be made payable to the student.

  • BUTLER CHRISTIAN MINISTERIAL ALLIANCE SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  APRIL 1

    A $500 non-renewable scholarship to a male or female student who meets the following qualifications:

    • Student must be enrolled in the Butler School system OR is active in a Butler Christian Ministerial Alliance Church.
    • Student must be involved in school and community.
    • Student must display positive leadership and Christian character.
    • Student must have at least a "C" high school grade average.
    • Student must enter a college, university or trade school in the fall of the same year.

    Three letters of recommendation, one from a teacher or school administrator, one from a pastor or youth pastor, and one from non-school personnel must accompany the application.

  • BUTLER FFA PARENTS AND FRIENDS SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  APRIL 1 (School is not in session on April 1 so applications must be turned in March 31.)

    Must be a senior and a member of FFA.  These $250 scholarships will be given to the student at the FFA Spring Banquet.

  • BUTLER HIGH SCHOOL INTERACT SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  MARCH 31

    Student must be a senior and a member of the BHS Interact Club.

    Student must have attended nine meetings per school year. See Mrs. Colburn for meeting details.

    Student must write a brief summary of what your involvement in Interact has meant to you and what you have learned from your experiences.

    The Butler Rotary Club will award 2-$500 scholarships to Interact Club seniors.

    • Must list dates of meetings attended. (Must attend 9 per school year.) See Mrs. Colburn for meeting information.
    • List years of membership and offices held.
    • Document community service through the Interact Club.
    • Provide a brief summary of what your involvement in Interact has meant to you and what you have learned from your experience.

    Application must be typed.

    • Where you plan to attend college/technical/trade school.

  • DARIN WAINSCOTT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  APRIL 15

    This is a $1,000, non-renewable scholarship that is to be awarded to a senior student at Butler High School annually. 

    The recipients of this scholarship are to exemplify attributes of selflessness, good character, and strong work ethic.  The recipient is responsible for presenting proof of enrollment towards further education. 

    A typed essay on the following prompt is required: "Darin was the type of person to always put others first.  Describe a situation in which you have placed someone else above yourself."

  • DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  APRIL 15

    Two $500.00 scholarships will be awarded.

    • Must be a high school senior in Bates and Cass Counties.
    • Must be the son, daughter, grandson, or graddaughter of a verteran eligible for DAV membership.
    • Be accepted by a college or university.
    • Three letters of recommendation, transcript, recent original photo, essay, copy of veteran discharge papers, and resume are required.

    This Foundation offers a new and improved online scholarship portal.  Students can research scholarship opportunities, bookmark relevant scholarships and apply online.

  • JOHN BYRON CORBIN CHARITABLE TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  Applications are due in the counseling office by Friday, April 23 to meet the receipt deadline of April 30.

    Award amount:  $2,000 per school year, renewable each year.

    Applications must incude the following:  These will be strictly enforced and any application missing any of the required information will not be considered.

    • A fully completed and signed application.

  • LOUIS AND ALICE GEHM MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  MARCH 15

    Applicant must be a spring graduate from any Bates County School and plan to continue his/her education in the medical/health field at a college, university, or educational institution.  Medical field could include physician, nurse, therapist, or technician.  Students must have a 3.5 GPA or better at the end of 7 semesters of high school.

    This is a $1000 scholarship.  Each semester, upon proof of a qualifying GPA of 3.0 for the current semester, the recipient is eligible for an addition $500 renewable for up to 7 additional semseters.

  • MASONIC LODGE #254 OF BUTLER SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  MARCH 15

    Applicant must complete an application and provide a 300-500 word essay on why you are applying for this scholarship and what your future goals are.

    A list of school and/or community extra-curricular activities in which you have participated and any offices held must also be attached.

  • MILDRED DAWSON LUSK SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  March 31

    Scholarship is a one-time award to assist recipient pay for higher education expenses. This includes a 4-year college/university; 2-year community college and then 2 additional years; nursing school or other similar program.

    Scholarship amount varies.

    First preference will be given to someone entering a health profession.

    Three letters of recommendation are required.  At least one letter must be from an outside school source.

  • MODERN DAZE HOMEMAKERS SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  APRIL 1 (No School on April 1 so turn in to counselor early)

    The Modern Daze Homemakers Club will award two $250 scholarships.  Applicants must complete the application and turn in to the counselor's office by April 1.

    Please make sure you check all spelling and grammar on your application.  Errors could cause your application to be rejected.

  • OPAL M. HUFFMAN CHARITABLE TRUST

    DEADLINE:  MARCH 15

    ELIGIBILITY:

    The recipient must be under the age of twenty five.

    The recipient must have a high school diploma or GED.

    Scholarships may be awarded for post secondary education; including but not limited to: universities, college, junior colleges and trade/technical schools.

    $2,500 for the fall semester, may be renewed for $1,000 for the spring semester if all criteria are met.

    TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR RENEWAL, THE RECIPIENT MUST:

    Maintain a GPA of at least 2.5.

    Be enrolled as a full time student by the standards of the insttution in which you are enrolled.

    Provide your past semster transcript and a copy of your upcoming class schedule.

  • P.E.O. SCHOLARSHIP CHAPTER HV

    DEADLINE:  APRIL 1 (No School April 1 so turn it in to counselor early)

    This is a $1,000 scholarship to be split $500 for the fall semester and $500 for the spring semester.

    Eligibility guidelines:

    The recipient must be a female and the immediate family must be residents of Bates County, Missouri.

    The recipient must be enrolled full-time at Cottey College.  A full-time student is one who carries a minimum of 12 hours per semester.  The recipient must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 for both semesters.

    It is the recipient's responsibility to provide a copy of her enrollment for the Fall and then the Spring as the scholarship is split between the two semesters.

  • PUBLIC SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  MAY 1

    This scholarship will be given to a student who is planning a career in law enforcement, military, first responser, criminal justice, etc.

    Recipient of this scholarship must provide proof of enrollment/grades by December 15.  The scholarhsip will be paid after receipt of such proof.

    A typed essay is required along with the application.

  • RONNIE HOUGH WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  MARCH 15

    This scholarship was established in honor and memory of Ronnie Hough and the dedication he had for wrestling and his family.

    It will be awarded to one senior who has wrestled at least one year in high school and is furthering their education in any way.

    This is a $250 scholarship.  The recipient will receive a check made payable to them once they turn in their grades for their first semester and their schedule for their second semester.

    Requires a 250 words or less essay on how wrestling has helped prepare you for your life after high school.

  • SAM & ROSALEE ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  April 1

    Eligibility:

    • Be graduating from a high school in Bates County, MO;
    • have at least a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA;
    • demonstrate financial need; and
    • be enrolling in a four-year college or university to pursue a degree in either education or medical fields.
    • Extracurricular activities and community service may also be considered.

  • SHELTER INSURANCE SCHOLARSHIP

    DEADLINE:  MARCH 31

    • This is a $2,000 scholarship awarded to a high school senior in Bates County.
    • The scholarship will be paid directly to the college to apply to the tuition, fees, room and board of the student.  Recipients are free to select any accredited college or university and any course of study leading to an academic degree.
    • A local selection committee of three to five persons will consider applicants scholastic achievement, participation and leadership in school and community activities, citizenship and moral character, and educational goals.
    • Recipient must accept the scholarship by enrolling in a college or university by the September following his/her high school graduation.
    • Children of any Shelter Insurance Agent or employee are NOT eligible recipients of scholarship.

    • Applicant must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better at the end of 7 semesters of high school.
    • Recipient must provide a copy of first semester college schedule as proof of enrollment to receive $250 first semester payment and proof of 3.0 GPA and second semester enrollment before the second payment of $250 is made.
