Butler, the “Electric City” is situated in western Missouri on I-49 and MO 52 highways, only an hour away from Kansas City to the north and Joplin to the south. The 4219 residents consider Butler an ideal place to live and make a living. At the center of historic Butler is the beautifully manicured Bates County Courthouse, built of native stone by local artisans. Butler is also home to the Bates County Museum and the state of Missouri’s newest historic site, “The Battle of Island Mound.”

Outdoor recreation opportunities abound in Butler from fishing and picnicking at the Butler City Lake, to enjoying the Butler City Park’s outstanding public pool, tennis courts, basketball, community shelters, playground, and exercise trail. Butler is proud to be the home of 18 churches, the Bates County Health Center, an all-weather airport, the Bates County Memorial Hospital, a local radio station, and a weekly newspaper.
